Cambridge iGCSE English Language Exam Preparation Course

The Cambridge iGCSE English Language Exam Preparation Course, (EPC), is designed to support students studying for the Cambridge First Language English exams, (0500/0990 specifications). This block of live interactive webinar-style sessions is accompanied by additional resources and information as well as an assignment for each lesson, ideally to be completed in advance of watching the associated tutorial, with the aid of comprehensive guidance notes to help consolidate skills and build understanding. Please note that this course does not include marking and feedback on assignments. Students can self-assess their responses against the detailed annotated model responses I provide. This enables them to get to grips with and fully grasp what is required.

The course is comprised of a series of ten x 1.5hr live webinars each of which focuses on a different area of the syllabus as well as guidance notes and model responses.

The sessions will explore:

  • Writing for different audiences and for different purposes
  • Conventions and features of letters, articles, speeches, journal entries, interview transcripts, news reports and formal reports
  • Descriptive and narrative composition
  • What is required for the comprehension and short answer questions, writer’s effects and summary writing tasks

The tutorials cover the criteria for success, exam technique and strategy in order to break down how best to approach the various assessment tasks.

Throughout the course, I share annotated model responses I have written as well student exemplar pieces in order to guide students through how to analyse the question, identify and select relevant material to produce a structured, sequenced piece and illustrate what makes a good response.
