A series of ten webinars suitable for lower KS3 students aged around 11-12 years old, although they may suit slightly older or younger students depending on ability.
In this block, we will read and study a variety of texts focusing on the different thoughts and emotions that make us human and can influence or govern our actions and behaviours. We will explore a range of different texts that explore courage, joy and happiness, love, anger, fear, sorrow, compassion and resilience. We will also discuss how writers appeal to reason, logical thought and our emotions in order to communicate ideas and construct arguments. We will focus on understanding how writers express thoughts and feelings through the use of, for example, figurative language, imagery, stylistic and structural devices as well as thinking about how we can use these insights to build awareness of how to write about our own thoughts and emotions effectively.
Throughout the course, we will be building students’ core skills and a solid foundation in English in a fun and engaging way. A wide range of supplementary cross-curricular resources, including links to relevant articles, news reports, websites and documentaries, and optional written tasks will be provided. This will give students the opportunity to broaden their reading and enhance their knowledge of effective writing as well as extend their vocabulary and their technical skills, understanding of structure and sequence, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
This course is part of the Pre iGCSE series.
