A series of webinars suitable for KS3 students aged around 12-14 years old, although they may suit slightly older or younger students depending on ability.
This block of lessons is themed around Fire! and Snow, Ice and Frozen Worlds. We embark on an exploration of lands of fire and ice, venturing to volcanic landscapes of past and present, to the vast stretches of frozen wasteland at the poles, encountering tales of daring and danger and experiencing life in extreme environments at the edges of existence.
We will study a variety of text types, (letters, articles, journal entries, speeches, interviews and reports), as well as audience and purpose during the sessions to develop students’ skills. All the sessions are designed to develop students’ core understanding and skills and provide them with a solid foundation in English.
A range of supplementary resources will be provided including links to relevant articles, news reports, websites and documentaries to give students the opportunity to broaden their reading and build their knowledge of effective writing as well as extend their vocabulary and their technical skills through the use of accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation. We will also discuss the importance of audience and purpose when writing and reading. All the sessions are designed to develop students’ understanding and core skills.
Recordings will be made available in Google Classroom shortly after each week’s live event, so students are able to review what is covered each week, together with an optional written task for students to complete if they wish to in their own time.
