Today’s top exam tip follows on from yesterday’s advice to read exam questions carefully and make sure you answer the question set.
*Tip #2: Beware the double-barrelled bullet point!*
As those of you who are preparing for the Cambridge English Language exams will know, for the extended response task on paper 1, it’s essential that you *address the bullet points specified in the question*. However, it’s important to look out for bullet points that include *two* separate ideas, rather than just one, and make sure you address *both parts of the bullet point!* Otherwise, it’s likely you won’t pick up on all the possible ideas and may struggle to find relevant pieces of information.
For example, you may recall that the Exam Clinic extended response task we looked at a few weeks ago asked candidates to write a journal entry as a character named Jose. One of the bullet points stated you should *describe where you have been and what you have seen*. Note there are two separate ideas here: where you have been AND what you have seen.
Watch out for double-barrelled bullet points like this one and where two ideas are contained in one bullet point, make sure you address both!
