A series of ten webinars suitable for students aged around 11-12 years old, although they may suit slightly older or younger students depending on ability.
The theme for this course is Fun and Games. In this block, we explore a range of text types and genres themed around fun, entertainment and leisure. Through studying articles, speeches, news reports, journal entries and letters, we will learn about the various conventions of these different text types and the features of style and structure associated with each of them. We will examine the techniques writers employ to create effective pieces and consider a range of topics including the pros and cons of engaging in competitive sport, what draws people to certain hobbies and the appeal of different leisure pursuits.
Throughout the course, we will be building students’ core skills and a solid foundation in English in a fun and engaging way. A wide range of supplementary cross-curricular resources, including links to relevant articles, news reports, websites and documentaries, and optional written tasks are provided. This will give students the opportunity to broaden their reading and enhance their knowledge of effective writing as well as extend their vocabulary and their technical skills, understanding of structure and sequence, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Recordings are made available via Google Classroom, so students are able to review what is covered in each webinar at any time. An optional written task is provided for students to complete if they wish to.
Once you have completed your booking, please look out for an email with details on how to access Google Classroom and all the recordings and resources.
