A series of ten webinars suitable for students aged around 12-14 years old, although they may suit slightly older or younger students depending on ability.
This course is themed around *Epic, myth and ancient civilisations*. We’ll be studying a range of different pieces including speeches and persuasive writing, descriptive accounts and journal texts, letters, news reports, poetry and extracts from narrative writing. We will consider key aspects of the epic form, delve into the past and explore stories featuring larger-than-life characters, study accounts of the discovery of objects from history and consider current debates surrounding precious artefacts of cultural significance.
A wide variety of supplementary resources are provided including links to relevant articles, news reports, websites and documentaries to give students the opportunity to broaden their reading and exposure to a different text types. The additional material will enable students to extend their vocabulary and understanding of how to structure and sequence their writing effectively and use grammar, spelling and punctuation accurately. We will also discuss the importance of audience and purpose when writing and reading. All the sessions are designed to develop students’ core skills and provide them with a solid foundation in English.
Recordings will be made available via Google Classroom, so students can review what is covered in each session at any time, and an optional written task is provided for students to complete if they wish to.
